Refractometry is an ideal analytical procedure for an accurate and reliable measurement of a liquid's purity, concentration or density. A refractometer measures the refractive index of a fluid, a quantity which is characteristic for this specific substance and correlated to other properties such as concentration and density.
PIOX R reaches a high precision, is thermically driftfree and zero point stable. An integrated Pt1000 probe cares for a rapid temperature compensation.
Standard refractometer applications such as the calculation of the sugar concentration in °Brix are included in the standard delivery. Customer specific fluid data can be implemented with the help of the software tool RMKoeff. Afterward, PIOX will determine the customer specific output quantities such as for example the mass concentration of a component of a solution. When further process parameters are input, the measurement of 3-component mixtures is also possible.
The refractometer offers various useful tools for rapid error detection, amongst others a self-diagnosis function and a detection of coating formation on the prism.

How Refractometers work?

PIOX TR374 Transmitter
PIOX TR374 can be used for the monitoring of complex processes. Up to 2 PIOX refractometer sensors of any type can be connected. The transmitter TR374 receives the refractive index and the temperature as an electrical signal from the refractometer sensor and calculates the customer specific output quantities. It can be equipped with various inputs and outputs in order to insure the best possible adaptation to your process.

RMKoeff Software
The standard fluid parameters stored in the transmitter might not be adapted to your needs and your application. In this case, your own data sets must be defined and transferred to the PIOX transmitter. The software RMKoeff helps you with this task.
You will need an experimental determination of the relationship between the nDT and the wished output quantity. This can be done in your own laboratories or at the FLEXIM labs.
On the base of your data, RMKoeff will generate the characteristic curve of the fluid with polynomials of grade 1 to 3. You only have to enter the measured data in the appropriate table.
